Our client contacted us to create a non-intrusive, enclosed walkway and stairwell so that they could enjoy their vacation home year-round. Their old process: pull into the garage, walk down the partially-covered stairs to the yard, stagger across 4’x8’ plywood panels set atop many feet of snow, and only then to shovel the stairs up to the front door.
At only five feet wide, this spectacular, glass-enclosed timber pedestrian bridge spans over forty-five feet between the garage and the home’s main living space on the second floor making the new process a joy. The bridge’s design angles once about a small grove of Aspen trees on one side and a maturing Pine which the client desperately wanted to preserve. New roof lines and eaves, and wood siding were carefully matched to the aging home. Elegant timber connections, delicate structure, low-voltage lighting, and redwood floor boards makes this vacation home a retreat for any time of the year.
